The Monday after

This was a great season. And such a young team! Many were players who just finished their first or second year of college. Kevin Watterson and Sara Pelkey did so much for the team, to put a great team together and hold great pregame and in-game activities. The volunteers, the sponsors, and a super group of interns made every Swamp Bats game an event. Adrian,Shannon, Nick, Josh, Maddie, Nick You can read of them here. Many thanks to Kevin, the Board of Directors and, Jen English. It was a great year. So much goodwill and affection and fun.

Just as we wondered if winter would never end, we worry if the rain will ever stop. Certainly, we haven’t had the danger that’s befallen Pennsylvania and Virginia but golly, Mother Nature’s thrown a monkey wrench into the NECBL schedule. Just check out the story in the Keene Sentinel. Friday’s rainout means rescheduling to Saturday night at 6:30 pm. Photo from the Sanford Mainers twitter page. As always, if you don’t make the trip, we invite you to listen with Joe Fitzhenry and Josh Caredeo on 104.1FM/1220 AM.  You can follow online and you can watch the game by clicking on the multimedia tab on NECBL.com .  Good luck, team!

Tough Night

There are no faint hearts amongst Swamp Bats fans. After all that rain, over 500 hearty souls turned out for Fan Appreciation night at Alumni Field. Your Swamp Bats took it on the chin, 9-2 to the Sanford Mainers. This sets up the Friday rematch in Maine for the wildcard game. oude came in relief after three inni8ngs and did a superb job.   If you can’t make the trip, we invite you to listen with Joe Fitzhenry and Josh Caredeo on 104.1FM/1220 AM. Also, you can watch the game by clicking on the multimedia tab on NECBL.com. The winner of Friday night’s game would move onto the Valley Blue Sox. Starting pitcher Erick Zecha had a rough night, the Moose scored 7 runs, all with 2 out, before he exited after 3 innings. Andrew Houde came pitched 6 innings of stellar relief. Sanford picked up two unearned runs. Brandon Heath pitched the 9th inning and put the Moose away 1-2-3. Joe Breaux, Alex Griffin and, Lorenzo Hampton, Jr had the night off. Get your rest T...

Weather woes

Wednesday’s weather took a toll on the NECBL schedule.  An afternoon tilt between the Valley Blue Sox and Sanford was scrapped with the idea the rain would blow away and allow us to play our scheduled regular season finale. Then, the rain blew our start from 6:30 till 8 pm. Your Swamp Bats will open the gates at 6 pm. A win for Keene means a home playoff game.   There will be no charge for Fan Appreciation night.

For your consideration:

As of Wednesday afternoon, Brandon Smith has set a league record or Runs Batted In, has set a team record for hits and going into Wednesday night, has 11 Home runs (tied for league-lead) and is batting 373 ! MichaelMcMahon of the Keene Sentinel and Swamp Bats manager Lyndon Coleman have brought up the idea that Brandon Smith should be the Most Valuable Player of the NECBL. That’s a heck of an idea. The Pride of Georgetown, Indiana Smith’s a heckuva player, a great ambassador for the Swamp Bats, did NOT miss a beat when he switched from 1st to 3 rd base and been a leader on the field and a great teammate. Plus, he is always smiling! This blog and your twitter maven* support Brandon Smith for NECBL Most Valuable Player. *Joe Fitzhenry tweets also. I don't mean to speak for him but, c'mon!
