First practice

Players gathered at the KSC baseball field and the team meeting began at Noon.

Players gathered in the dugout and were briefed by Kevin Watterson and Sara Pelkey. Then, it was time for Head Coach Lyndon Coleman. The first order of business was to take roll. Each player responded to Coach Coleman’s queries (sorry for a lot of alliteration). 

 Fortnite emerged as a thread of conversation with Erich Zecha the unofficial Swamp Bats champion.

Players got in warm ups and soft toss and then, batting practice. Coach Coleman hit for infield and Coach Dave Moates threw BP while offering critique for each player. Coach Gary Calhoun supervised  pitchers and catchers.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Brandon Smith has set a league record or Runs Batted In, has set a team record for hits and going into Wednesday night, has 11 Home runs (tied for league-lead) and is batting 373 ! MichaelMcMahon of the Keene Sentinel and Swamp Bats manager Lyndon Coleman have brought up the idea that Brandon Smith should be the Most Valuable Player of the NECBL. That’s a heck of an idea. The Pride of Georgetown, Indiana Smith’s a heckuva player, a great ambassador for the Swamp Bats, did NOT miss a beat when he switched from 1st to 3 rd base and been a leader on the field and a great teammate. Plus, he is always smiling! This blog and your twitter maven* support Brandon Smith for NECBL Most Valuable Player. *Joe Fitzhenry tweets also. I don't mean to speak for him but, c'mon!

Playoff Friday

Wednesday didn’t go as planned but there’s a rematch for Friday night. Brandon Smith Jesse Mayfield-Sheehan hade a good write-up in today’sSentinel.
