Play ball!

It’s finally here! After snow in March and April or, “the never-ending January”  (as a friend called it) the NECBL season is here.

Fingers are crossed for clouds to part and for every team gets to play.

The Swamp Bats have had two practices and it is rewarding to see strangers quickly work to becoming a team. -That must be the experience of all NECBL organizations. Opening night and we are each undefeated and ready to go.

Coach Lyndon Coleman started Monday’s practice at Summit  Athletic Center with introductions of several new players and pitching Coach Julien Soucy.

It’s wonderful to see a catcher receiving throws from a pitcher for the first time and to observe the gestures, the body language and the non-verbal communication between teammates.

Coach Gary Calhoun supervised as position players drilled and coach Dave Moates threw batting practice and sometimes, between pitches, he’d ask “Now, why was that a good swing?" or , “What did you do wrong  on that one?”

And players got outfitted Monday.
