Hey Now, You’re an All Star

Your votes made it official; Mitchell Golden was added for Sunday’s All Star game.
Hey now you're an All Star get your game on, go play

That gives the Swamp Bats eight, (count ‘em 8) EIGHT Swamp Bats on the North All Star roster. Golden joins outfielder Jacob Koos, Brandon Smith, catcher Alex Griffin, pitchers Griffin McGarry and  Justin Willis and reserves Joe Breaux (who’s made some great catches in left and right field and been a terror as a base runner), reserve first baseman Cordell Dunn, Jr.
Both Brandon Smith and Cordell Dunn deserve attention. In addition to being reluctant to pose for a portrait snapshot, Smith has moved from first to third without missing a beat, set the new single season league record for Runs Batted In and, has an outside chance for the single season HR title. Dunn has played as catcher, left and right field, first and third base and, Designated Hitter. Indeed, if he played for Kevin Cash, he’d have been brought in to pitch!
Golden received nearly 4000 votes via a word of mouth and an online campaign that was simultaneously ubiquitous, annoying and effective. Major props to Director of Operations Sarah Pelkey,  photographer Alexis Thompson, videographer Shannon Slater, Ted’s Shoe& Sport, Bees Tees, Pedraza's  Mitchell’s teammates and host family, Jen English and, voters near and far.

Weather woes

Wednesday’s weather took a toll on the NECBL schedule.  An afternoon tilt between the Valley Blue Sox and Sanford was scrapped with the idea the rain would blow away and allow us to play our scheduled regular season finale. Then, the rain blew our start from 6:30 till 8 pm. Your Swamp Bats will open the gates at 6 pm. A win for Keene means a home playoff game.   There will be no charge for Fan Appreciation night.

The Monday after

This was a great season. And such a young team! Many were players who just finished their first or second year of college. Kevin Watterson and Sara Pelkey did so much for the team, to put a great team together and hold great pregame and in-game activities. The volunteers, the sponsors, and a super group of interns made every Swamp Bats game an event. Adrian,Shannon, Nick, Josh, Maddie, Nick You can read of them here. Just as we wondered if winter would never end, we worry if the rain will ever stop. Certainly, we haven’t had the danger that’s befallen Pennsylvania and Virginia but golly, Mother Nature’s thrown a monkey wrench into the NECBL schedule.
